September twenty-fifth is National Comic Book Day as well as Native American Day. In November, we have Native American Heritage Month and can expect a momentous release of a new one-shot title from Marvel. So today is a day to mark your calendars and buy that pre-order.

It will be really fun to see Marvel revisit some of their indigenous characters with indigenous writers and artists at the helm. In the past, the representation of these characters has been questionable. Rooted in the stereotypical portrayal from movies and t.v., they often fell flat or were forgetful sidekicks.
If you choose not to pre-order, I suggest swinging by your local comic shop and supporting them. My local store has closed due to COVID but I’m planning on using this (local comic shop finder) to find another one close.
As a comic book collector throughout my life, I always loved the stories with mythological or folklore origins. That passion turned into my love of writing my own books steeped in legend and folk characters. To learn more about what I write, please visit my site and sign up for my newsletter.
